Games built for the two minutes you actually have
Most of us don't play mobile games in long stretches. We play them in the gaps: waiting for a kettle, standing in a queue, sitting through a slow elevator. The best phone games understand this and design around it.
The key features are fast loading, quick rounds, and the ability to stop instantly without losing progress. Nothing kills a two-minute session like a thirty-second loading screen followed by a mandatory tutorial reminder.
Arcade games tend to be perfect for this because a single round is often the whole experience. You start, you play, you're done, and your score is saved. No commitment, no guilt when you close the app.
But some longer games sneak into this category too. RPGs with anywhere-saves and management sims you can peek at for a moment both fit surprisingly well, as long as they don't punish you for stepping away.
My personal test is simple: can I open the game, get something out of it, and close it, all before my coffee finishes brewing? If yes, it stays on my phone.
